Jenny Craig… a familiar friend!

A few months ago, I re-joined Jenny Craig. I have been doing well on the plan. However, I have not exercised nearly as much as I should. I am enjoying the food, as I did when I was on the program while living in Connecticut. I moved back to Northwest Arkansas in 2009, but I could not afford to continue using the Jenny Craig program. My husband had a job in another state and our time apart caused me to be very depressed. When I am depressed… I eat!  I ate myself back up to my original weight + 4 pounds.

Since I re-joined the program in July 2011, I have lost 11 pounds and 8 inches overall. I would have lost more than that, but I have not been exercising very much.

Today, I am recovering from oral surgery. It was done yesterday and as part of the recovery, I am not to exercise for one week. Although I cannot exercise my body, I can exercise my mind and fingers by typing. I have renewed my commitment to this blog. One way I have done that is by registering my own domain for this web site. My own little home on the web!

When I have my weekly consultation (Saturdays at 10:00 AM), I will write down my successes and challenges from the preceding week. During the other days, I will write about my fitness and thoughts along the journey.

Challenges for this week: I may be eating more Edy’s Fruit Bars than usual, since the cold soothes my post-op surgical site. The lack of exercise may cause me to stay at the same weight…. or may cause me to gain. I won’t fret about the possibilities. It is what it is.

Successes for this week: renewing my commitment to this blog; feeling good after having surgery!

My neighborhood (hills upon hills!)

The state I live in has been experiencing s record-breaking heatwave. I have not exercised much and I certainly have NOT been able to ride “Kitty”. .. until now. The heatwave has finally settled down.

I have lived in my neighborhood for almost 7 years. Not until I started riding my bike did I realize how many hills are around my house! My house is actually in the middle of a hill. When I say “hill”, I don’t mean steep, horrendous hills. Nonetheless, these hills are kicking my butt!!!

I have ridden my bike every day except for today, to give my quad muscles and lungs a little rest. However, I have been walking every day, sometimes in addition to riding.

Today, I walked 4 miles and tried to walk briskly up the hills. I did it!! These are small accomplishments, but I can feel the increased strength in my legs and lungs. I go a little farther each day.

I don’t know if I will do any outdoor activity tomorrow. I may give my body a rest. I have designated Saturdays to be my “weigh-in” day, so we will see how that goes!

I have also increased my water intake. I am averaging 24 – 32 ounces a day. This is terrible… I know… but it’s better than 0 ounces, which was my average not too long ago. Oh… the poor habits I’ve burdened my body with over the past 8 years or so. No smoking or drinking EVER, but lots of overeating, not drinking water and sitting around. Now, I am throwing those bad habits away and my body will reward me by getting lighter and stronger!! Good deal.
